Sandy Macdonald
OWNER/Stonemason
I began my building journey in 2012 as an apprentice stonemason restoring the Parliament Buildings in Ottawa, Ontario. Working on a building, which was originally completed in 1865, gave me insight into the incredible craftsmanship and strength masonry achieves.
I moved to Victoria, BC in 2015 where I continued working to restore masonry on historic buildings including the Empress Hotel and the Legislative Assembly Building. At this time I also began working residentially and worked on builds from the ground up, solidifying new spaces with the strength of stone.
In 2017 I attended the Island School of Building Arts on Gabriola Island, BC where I learnt the craft of traditional timber framing. Since then I have built pergolas, arbours and cabins using traditional mortise and tenon joinery.
I have always loved building and I am driven to keeping these crafts alive in Victoria, and Pender Island, BC, where I reside with my family.
